Ms. Mc Dermott’s and Mr. Farrelly’s 2nd and 3rd class students have been very busy this week learning all about 3-D shapes. On Wednesday, students were tasked with using spaghetti and marshmallows to create a variety of polyhedra. They used these wonderful creations to determine and discuss the properties of cubes, cuboids, pyramids and tetrahedra, including the amount of faces, edges and vertices on each. We were very impressed with the boys’ enthusiasm and their use of mathematical language throughout. It was clear they really enjoyed putting their knowledge of 3-D shapes to the test with this activity!
